Press release on the launch of the 2025 tax objection campaign
Disobey the war! Make fiscal objection!
At a time of increasing global militarisation, marked by the war in Ukraine, the genocide in Gaza and the West Bank, along with some fifty other armed conflicts, and the constant increase in military spending, we announce the start of the Fiscal Objection campaign, a direct action of civil disobedience and non-collaboration with the military-industrial complex.
The Spanish state Spain allocates 36 billion euros to military spending in 2025, an amount that could rise to 60 billion with covert items, plus another 95 billion for the new arms race. This spending, which doubles the investment in Minimum Living Income, leads to cuts in health, education and social services, increasing social inequality. This wasteful spending on armaments fuels the spiral of global violence and demonstrates the government's alignment with the interests of the military industry.
In the face of this reality, Fiscal Objection presents itself as a powerful tool to challenge military power and build an alternative future. It consists of diverting a part of our taxes, away from those destined to finance war, towards social projects that promote feminism, access to housing, labour rights, alternative communication, environmentalism, alternative economy, international cooperation and migrants' rights.
How does it work? During the tax declaration, disobedient women allocate a part of their taxes, corresponding to military spending, to organisations working for peace and justice. This act of civil disobedience translates into a concrete action of non-collaboration with militarism and resistance to war.
Fiscal Objection is a collective action of civil disobedience. By refusing to fund war with our taxes, we send a clear message: we demand that the government invest in real solutions, such as housing, health, climate and hunger eradication, not in armaments.
Don't fund war! Object to taxation.
Find out how to do it and spread the word.

Tax objection to military spending 2025
Campaign 2025 (for the Renta 2024)
Once again, the Income Tax Declaration (IRPF): the state is asking to pay part, perhaps the most important, of our direct taxes. Supposedly to cover some our social needs (education, health, culture, decarbonisation of the economy, protection of nature, improvement of public services, civil protection in emergencies, scientific research for peaceful purposes...). This is well and goog. But let's o forget that a very signigicant portion of these taxes will end up financing militarism (10.57% in 2024). We propose you to say: NO!
Contributing to military spending is generating wars, promoting authoritarianism, increasing social injustice and aggravating the climate, environmental and energy crises. Militarism puts human lives, our health, the health of the planet and the future of new generations at risk. It also takes away a very important part of our resources that are needed to cover basic social needs.
Advocacy video for the Military Expenditure Tax Objection 2024
Military spending (the budget of the Ministry of Defence, the hidden items in other ministries, plus the extraordinary credits approved by the Council of Ministers) in 2024 amounted to 62,126 million euros, 3.84% of the national GDP. That's 169.7 million euros per day, or about 1,266 euros per inhabitant per year in Spain, an infamous barbarity!!
War is a crime against humanity, not in our name!
To prevent wars you have to get involved. Object to military spending!
If you want to send a clear message to the government that you don't agree with military spending and European rearmament: TAX OBJECTION!
With 1€ of tax objection, you don't run the risk of suffering unacceptable reprisals from the Treasury and you are really betting for PEACE and DISARMAMENT.
What is tax objection?
Fiscal objection is the refusal to collaborate financially with the state in the financing of armies and their wars.
Fiscal objection is an act of civil disobedience (and therefore illegal) that consists of diverting part of the taxes from the income tax return (IRPF) and allocating this amount to social initiatives that work on the construction of alternatives of a transforming and supportive nature.
Not one person, not one euro for war!
- See the 2024 tax objection report.
How to make a tax objection?
- Choose a project or entity to which you want to allocate the money. We suggest the Alternativa Antimilitarista-MOC's International Project-MOC 2025. Make a transfer or deposit in their account for the amount you wish to divert (we suggest several possibilities in point 2). Keep the receipt.
- You must object to an amount that you can afford in case the tax office asks you for a refund.
- 1 euro (so you run no real risk). This is a symbolic amount.
- 10.57% of your tax liability resulting from the self-assessment (box 505), which corresponds to the percentage of military expenditure over the total of the General State Budget.
- Any amount you consider.
- You file your tax return online (Renta Web). Fill in your details and amend box 606 ("Withholdings art. 11 of Council Directive 2003/48/EC reported before 1 January 2019 (Austria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Monaco and Andorra)") by entering the amount you have decided to divert.
- Send the letter to the Minister of Finance explaining your reasons for making a Tax Objection to Military Spending. We suggest a template. We recommend that you enclose a copy of the receipt for the payment made. You can send it electronically through the Tax Agency website.
- Inform us of your objection because we can make a count of all the objections that have been made, as this is a collective campaign. Fill in the form: http://www.objecionfiscal.info/encuesta

Presentation of the promotional video of the 2024 campaign for tax objection to military spending
Today, 26/4/2024, MOC València has made a video to promote the tax objection to military spending during the 2024 campaign (IRPF 2023). You can watch the video or download it by clicking on the following link:
The video, in a simple and clear way, denounces the tremendous increase in military spending, especially during the last two years. It is estimated that in 2024, and despite the fact that the 2023 budgets have been extended, it will reach the scandalous figure of 57,000 million euros in Spain. At the same time, numerous social, educational, nature protection, economic decarbonisation, cultural or health care items have meagre increases or remain frozen. It also shows how senseless it is to devote people and economic resources to preparing for war. The arms race into which European countries have thrown themselves, driven by NATO and US interests and by their military, economic and political elites, as has happened in other historical periods, far from having a dissuasive effect, will lead us to war and self-destruction.
The video shows the testimonies of eight people who have decided to object to military spending on their tax returns. Anyone can practice this simple act of civil disobedience, even by diverting from their taxes the symbolic amount of €1 (with no known legal or tax effect). By registering their desire not to collaborate with the maintenance of militarism, nor with the preparation of wars, they put their conscience and their humanity above blind obedience to the state. This breaks a forced and imposed "consensus" that does not allow us to question the meaninglessness of militarism and enables us to open a real path towards the construction of a more just society and a truly peaceful world.
The fiscal objection to military spending is one of the few instruments that ordinary people have to say loud and clear to our government, which defines itself as the most progressive in history, that we do not agree with the increase in military spending, nor with the promotion of war as an instrument of its international policy.
NO PERSON, NO EURO FOR WAR!
Tax objection to military spending 2023
Campaign 2023 (for the Renta 2022)
Every year we contribute to the expenses of the State with our taxes. An important part of them will go to finance militarism (4.25% in Spain, in 2022). We propose that you do not resign yourself and show your rejection.
To contribute to military spending is to encourage wars.
This money would be useful if it were used to cover social needs (education, health, culture, decarbonization of the economy, protection of nature, improvement of public services, scientific research for peaceful purposes...).
LWar is a crime against humanity.
To avoid wars we must get wet! Object to military spending!
What is the fiscal objection?
Fiscal objection is the refusal to collaborate financially with the state in the financing of armies and their wars.
Fiscal objection is an act of civil disobedience (therefore, illegal) that consists of diverting part of the taxes of the income tax declaration (IRPF) and to destine this amount to social initiatives that work in the construction of alternatives of transforming and solidary character.
